Why we love this Tigers of India photo tour

If you have always dreamed of seeing the forests and tigers of the jungle book, this tigers of India photo tour is perfect for you. We visit two premier tiger protected areas in Madhya Pradesh, in central India. We have designed the tour to co-incide with warmer weather, when the tigers often come to watering holes to cool off. This also often allows us to experience behaviors as other animals want to come and drink.

Our first stop during our tigers of India photo tour is world famous Bandhavgarh National Park. Tigers stroll through its mix of Sal deciduous dry forest and grasslands, stalking their favorite prey like massive gaur, elegant sambar deer, and strong wild boar. Tiger densities are so dense here that we expect to see tigers here every day. We will also have one full day permit here, giving us more access than anyone else.

From Bandhavgarh we travel to Kanha National Park, the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s jungle book. The green forest in the park provides a very different setting for us to take photos of tigers. With fewer vehicles allowed in the park the tiger sightings are also a bit more intimate here. The park also protects the barasingha, or swamp deer, often found in the parks numerous grasslands.

This tigers of India photo tour has been designed to provide you with the best chances of seeing and photographing wild tigers in India. In addition to the big cats, we will have a chance to see some small cats like jungle cat, as well as other mammals like wild elephants, and dhole. Finally, the birdlife during our tour is rich in diversity, with peacocks and kingfishers being the stars of the show.

Tigers of India photo tour testimonials

"“My trip to India with Cat Expeditions was everything I could hope for and much more. We had so many fantastic tiger sightings and were able to witness many different behaviors, including interactions between parents and cubs, feeding on kills, patrolling territory, and stalking prey. With the help of skilled and passionate local guides, we learned to recognize individual tigers and heard about their lives. I also found myself falling in love with the parks’ beautiful landscapes and the other animals who live there. Indian Leopards, Asian Elephants, Chital and Sambar deer, Golden Jackals, Guar, Blackbuck, Asian Paradise Flycatchers, Red Junglefowl, and Crested Serpent Eagles were among my many favorites! In such rich habitats, there was always something to see and learn, and endless opportunities for photography. Sebastian’s expertise in both photography and animal behavior helped me capture these great moments. Seeing a tiger in the wild is a breathtaking, unforgettable experience. If you get the chance to join this trip, take it!"
