Caracals of the Cape Photo Tour

Photograph one of Africa's most elusive small cats

This private Caracals of the Cape photo tour will bring you eye to eye with one of the most elusive wild cats in Africa, the stunningly beautiful caracal. Track caracal through their native fynbos habitat, a region famous for its biodiverse plant life. We have photographed Caracal, an extremely elusive wild cat, during every one of our previously run tours. This caracal tour, as of right now, is only offered on a private basis, to ensure the site we visit remains unknown and the cats within it aren't pressured by over-tourism. As is the case for all of our other tours, these cats are not baited in any way, and seeing one will be a true privilege.

Why we love this caracal safari

This caracal photo tour is designed for the sole purpose of finding and photographing caracal, one of the most elusive wild cats of Africa. Leading safaris all across the continent we so often hear from our local guides how rarely they spot these wild cats. After years and years of research and scouting trips we feel that we finally cracked the case for caracal, having found a location where we have always seen multiple caracals per tour, a feat unheard of for this cat. This tour is meant for wild cat lovers that have done the lions, leopards and cheetahs and are now after the much more elusive wild cats of the African continent.

We have chosen a very specific, secret location in South Africa as the spot for our Caracal photo tour for its densities of caracal, visibility of the cats, accessibility, photography aspects, and exclusiveness. This area is breathtakingly stunning, with fynbos habitat that covers the landscape, perfect habitat for the cat and the rodents it likes to hunt. To ensure that this site remains intact, and not overrun with photographers, we ask that you sign a non-disclosure agreement, which in the long term will protect the caracal and the other wildlife of the area.

We have picked this time of year to be away from the crowds, to ensure we will have a caracal to ourselves when we do spot one of these elusive cats. At this time of year, the cats will be active throughout the day, increasing our chances of spotting a caracal. The grass too will be shorter at this time of year, ensuring better visibility and less obstructions for photography.

By making this trip private and only available to a maximum of two guests, we ensure that each caracal sighting is intimate, and has minimum impact on the cat. It also means we as guides can concentrate fully on making sure you see the cat, and get the photographs you are hoping for!

For those interested, we can track caracal through the fynbos. This is a fun way to see how the cats move through this unique habitat.

Since we are in a very remote area, we arrange a private chef to prepare all of our meals. These are incredibly gourmet, and represent some of the best safari food we have ever experienced!

Finally, to get the most out of your caracal tour, we have caracal researchers come to camp to give us an insight into the ecology of the cats of the area, to understand their threats, and to realize how they fit into the ecosystem.
