Eurasian Lynx of Estonia Photo Tour

The elusive lynx that hunts deer

This Eurasian lynx of Estonia photo tour is designed to get you up and close with the Europe's most elusive wild cat, the Eurasian lynx. These incredibly beautiful wild cats, capable of hunting roe deer roam the boreal forests of Estonia, in eastern Europe. Despite their elusive nature, we have found and photographed Eurasian lynx on every previous photo tour we have run. Eurasian lynx are threatened in Estonia by the potential of hunting, which has occurred in the past. Our donations help lobby against hunting seasons in the future.

Why we love this Eurasian Lynx safari

This Eurasian lynx photo tour is perfect for any wild cat enthusiast who wants to photograph the most elusive lynx species, the Eurasian lynx. This tour requires patience as the chances for Eurasian lynx are few and far between, but when we do see one, its magical. Our extremely small group size ensures that we fit into one SUV leading to maximum opportunities to photograph the lynx in the often small windows between the trees.

It also ensures for meaningful encounters with the lynx and that we do not disturb them. We utilize the best local Eurasian lynx guide searching for the cats amongst rural villages and boreal forests of Estonia. Besides searching for the cats by car, we will track the lynx through snow to get a better feeling of their current whereabouts. It's a real adventure following their footsteps through bogs, fields, and forests.

There are often extended periods between any wildlife sightings. This tour requires persistence and patience, but also allows for all of us to really get to know each other and make friends. Despite the low densities of wildlife, we have always seen moose, roe deer, beaver, raccoon dogs, red fox, ural owl, northern pygmy owl, and black capercaillie during this tour.

We overlap the time of our tour with Eurasian lynx mating season in March. During mating season, the cats will be significantly more active, increasing our chances of seeing the lynx. If we are very lucky we may even hear the yowling call one Eurasian lynx will make to attract a partner.

Unique among our tours is the lodging for this trip. We stay in Vihula Manor, a two hundred year old estate that transports you back in history. Its on site spa allows you to enjoy traditional saunas, as well as a pool and hot tubs.
